Assessment, diagnostic criteria, and outcome measures for non-femoral head lower limb avascular necrosis in children and adolescents: a scoping review

About

Loss of blood supply leads to death of bone tissue, known as avascular necrosis. The most frequent site is the head of the femur at the hip, but here we reviewed studies of avascular necrosis in other bones, focusing on children and adolescents, occurring alone or secondary to cancer or other conditions. Patient reported signs and symptoms were often used to assess and determine outcomes, and greater use of standardized measures would improve the ability to compare studies. More studies are needed to define this condition during growth, and its impact on ability to complete daily activities and participate with peers.
